The appearance of her ex-husband, Adam, at her first gallery exhibition is a pleasant surprise for photographer Jenna Meyerson, even though the visit isn't entirely social. An attorney, Adam is convinced that a rival firm is involved in illegal activities, and some of Jenna's pictures may help him prove it.

But before Jenna can agree to help, Adam is murdered. Which brings another man from her past, P.I. Frank Renaldi, back into her life. Frank is determined to keep Jenna safe by taking matters into his own hands, but she's equally intent on finding Adam's killer—even if it makes her a target.

This is a fast-paced, entertaining read. The characters may be a little familiar, as is the situation, but there's a clever twist at the end. (Jan., 400 pp., $6.50)
