Positive that her father is marrying a fortune hunter, heiress Silver Nichols hires Rafael Jones to expose Celestia Cooper as a charlatan.

Rafe has played a role most of his life. Banished by his stepfather at 14, Rafe found a home with traveling players, who were not only actors, but con artists as well. He can play a con better than most, but he wonders just what Silver is hiding behind her icy facade.

Planning on wooing Silver and Celestia, Rafe agrees to pose as an English lord visiting Leadville, Colorado and finds himself in an interesting pre-dicament. First of all, his old mentors are in town, working a con of their own. Then Rafe realizes that Silvers soon-to-be-stepmother is far from a golddigger and Silver just might be jealous of losing her fathers love.

Add to this a ghost haunting the Nichols' mine, a miners strike, another suitor for Silvers hand, a few more cons and the antics of Rafes ward and you have a delightful, laugh-out-loud romp that will lift your spirits and have you cheering for more. SENSUAL (Dec., 350 pp., $5.99)
