Rivers is a master at portraying biblical characters in such a way that readers will feel as if they know them personally. Silas isn't very well known, yet he's quite important, so it's nice to learn more about his life. This insider's glimpse into Paul's humanity, as well as Silas' doubts, helps readers to gain a deeper understanding of the Bible.

The fifth and final book in the Sons of Encouragement series focuses on Silas, the scribe who took down the words of Paul and Peter as they ministered. We first meet him as the world is in turmoil, and he is trying to keep the writings safe. He reflects back on his travels and ministry, providing insights and reflections about Jesus.
