Take two strong characters, throw in some humor and a baby and you’ve got a perfect combination for a heartwarming romance. The suspense subplot is a bonus in this well-written story.

When Garth Vale discovers an abandoned infant girl hidden in a CIA spy plane, he goes on full alert. She needs medical attention and he can’t take her to an ER, so he seeks out the new doctor in town. All of Dr. Bronwyn Whitescarver’s alarm bells go off when a man shows up in the middle of the night with a sick baby in tow. She realizes two things right away: he’s not the girl’s father and she’s met him somewhere before. But her first duty is to the child despite the threat to her medical license. Garth knows it’s love at first sight for him and that he must persuade Bronwyn to marry him and keep little Julia. But she doesn’t believe she can become the wife of a SEAL knowing the dangerous kind of life they lead. (SOURCEBOOKS, May, 384 pp., $7.99)
