Madeline McCallister's teenage
niece has disappeared, but not before dropping off her newborn baby with prosecutor Dwight Powell. Dwight,
whose own family was ordered
killed by a man he prosecuted, doesn't want to get involved until somebody shoots up Maddie's house and tries
to kidnap the infant. Julie Miller's Search and Seizure (4) overlaps
the search for a missing teen with
an investigation into a baby-selling operation and the unfolding romance between two mature people. Miller handles Dwight's pain with a sympathetic, but not maudlin, hand as he responds
to earth mother Maddie's warmth.
