This is the second book in the Texas Boardinghouse Brides series, but the author quickly brings the new reader up to speed, and gives a sweet, heartwarming story with lovable characters. Readers will sympathize with Shannon and Leah and their desperation to improve their lives. Painting a descriptive picture of small-town life, this book is an easy escape into a historical setting.

Shannon and Leah are mail-order brides brought to a small Texas town under false pretenses. When Luke Davis, the man they both thought they were coming to town to marry, marries someone else, their dreams are shattered. With nowhere to go and pasts they would rather forget, can they find happiness and a future in the town of Lookout? (BARBOUR, Sep., 320 pp., $12.99)
