THE SECOND LINE

Author(s):

There are no good-guy vampires in this story, yet they don't appear to be all that evil, either. The characters are fascinating, which makes it a bit disappointing when it becomes apparent at the end of the story that you actually only get to know them in a superficial way.

Jackie discovers the existence of vampires while doing some corporate spying. Rescued from being a vampire's meal by Fletcher Dillon, she ends up working with him to stop the vampire Janus from providing his compatriots with a quick blood fix via a candy called Blood Suckers. Jackie's susceptibility to Janus' mind control may end up being the death of her and Fletcher -- or it just might be their salvation. (Mundania, Sep., $12.00)
