THE SECRETS OF BELL RIVER (4.5) by Kathleen O’Brien: After her divorce and her mother’s death, Tess Spencer heads to Colorado to interview for a job at the ranch/spa owned by her half-sisters — sisters who don’t know Tess exists. Tess resolves not to tell them who she is so they won’t think she’s just after a share of the ranch. But when she discovers she’s pregnant by her ex-husband and falling in love with carpenter Jude Calhoun, Tess plans to tell everyone the truth. Unfortunately, her ex ends up dead and Tess is the prime suspect. O’Brien has penned a complex novel that manages to skillfully weave together several different plot points. The author’s talent for story development is apparent in the way in which she crafted the relationship between Tess and her half-sisters, and in the development of Jude and Tess’s romance. A fantastic read!
