With a hero and heroine who touch readers’ hearts, London pens a tale of forbidden love in the third book in her Hadley Green series. She merges an engaging cast of characters, emotional intensity and a dose of sensuality. The predictable plot does not detract from this compelling read.

After six years of marriage to Edward, the Marquis of Carey, Lady Olivia’s dream of a happy union is gone. She is tied to an abusive drunkard who wants only one thing from her: an heir, which she is unable to give him. The one person who makes Olivia’s days brighter is Harrison Tolly, steward of the Carey family’s vast holdings. Harrison keeps his love for her to himself. His kindness and understanding over the years brings forth a revelation to Olivia: She is slowly falling in love with him. Unfortunately, nothing can come of it. When Olivia’s younger sister returns from Spain pregnant, fate intervenes and sets off a series of events that will change everyone’s lives. (POCKET STAR, Apr., 382 pp., $7.99)
