This first-class mystery has a romance hot enough to get your heart working double time. Walters makes the "poor little rich girl" plot seem fresh. Although this is the fourth series book, she brings new readers up to speed without being boring.

Cyndi Marks, or Cynthia James, as she was known in Jamesville, returns home to settle her recently deceased father's estate. Cyrus James was the town's much-hated patriarch, and Cyndi fled his abuse years ago.

Before Cyndi hits town, she gets a flat and is rescued by Shamus O'Rourke, who doesn't understand why no one believes that Cyndi was a victim of Cyrus' cruelty. Things get worse when they learn that someone wants to run her out of town and even kill her if all else fails. Shamus wants to be her knight in shining armor, but can he convince her of his feelings before it's too late? (, dl $5.50)
