Shannon Travers is leaving Paris and a thriving musical career to return home to Shepherd, Miss., to bury her mother. As if facing that task is not daunting enough, she comes face to face with a past that includes her bitter ex-husband and the young daughter she left behind to pursue her career. As the sheriff of a small town with a growing crime problem fueled by illegal drugs, Edison has his work cut out for him. Having to deal with the return of his ex-wife, the woman that he still loves despite his bitterness, is more than he can deal with. Facing Shannon and the prospect of losing custody of his daughter, he asks his girlfriend to marry him. When he’s injured and it gives him amnesia, he and Shannon are able to patch up their relationship, leading to a permanent mend as they overcome the seemingly insurmountable obstacles in their way.
