Sorensen knocks it out of the park again. Her latest is like a fine wine -- a full-bodied romance with rich and complex characters. While multiple characters fill out this creative suspense, each personal story overlaps with the others, and the effect is immensely satisfying. Couple that with the gripping plot, and Sorensen has another winner on her hands.

When a woman is apparently killed by a mountain lion, wildlife expert Shay Phillips and interim sheriff Luke Meza track down the lion and kill it.

But the dead woman's body seems to indicate foul play. As more bodies turn up, Shay and Luke work together to find a killer, but their attraction and a series of misunderstandings cause serious tension. With their lives -- and their hearts -- on the line, time is running out. (BANTAM, Sep., 416 pp., $7.99)
