The setting of By Male Order is dynamic: An old west town filled with danger and rustic beauty. And although the plot is definitely something new, with the men having a preexisting romantic relationship before bringing a woman into their lives, the chemistry between the characters is lacking, especially with Hope.

Hope Adams needs help. She can’t run her farm alone and after surviving an abusive husband she has no intention of ever getting involved with a man again. She asks her uncle to send a farmhand who has no interest in women. He sends both Thomas and Alec, since they need the work after Thomas is fired because of his relationship with Alec. As the three send time together their friendship grows — as does their desire for each other. (SIREN PUBLISHING, Oct., dl., $4.99)
