The first story in Toomb’s Dangerous Darkness series is a short but compelling tale. While the setting, characterization and backstory of the hero and heroine are well written, the short format leaves the reader wanting more.

Fleeing an abusive ex-husband and living under an assumed name, Natalie West heads to rural Michigan and takes a job as a live-in housekeeper to an elderly gentleman. Devlin Longridge has always sensed the presence of evil in his uncle’s house, but he’s pleased when Natalie sees and avoids the dark shadow on the floor. Natalie thought she’d outgrown her ability to see ghosts, but she is soon receiving warnings from beyond. As she and Dev succumb to a passion they cannot explain, Natalie’s ex plans his revenge. When a malevolent spirit is released during the search for a missing necklace, the past and present collide. (REDROSEPUBLISHING.COM, dl $1.99)
