Throughout this series, McCray has done a dazzling job developing an epic war with genuine danger and terrifying consequences. The author also doesn't skimp when it comes to imbuing her characters with touching emotions or delivering scorching sex. Brava!

D'Anu witch Hannah Wentworth joins Rhiannon in a
quest to enlist the aid of the Drow,
or dark elves, in their battle against
the Fomorii. The Drow have been unwilling to help up to this point,
but after Garran, the king of the
Drow, is summoned by the Great Guardian, he learns of a dangerous choice he must make.

For the first time in a long time, Garran finds himself highly attracted
to a human female. Stubborn and tough, Hannah is not one to let emotions get in her way, but she too feels the pull between them. In war, choices and sacrifices must be made; do these two lovers have the courage to make the difficult decisions? (ST. MARTIN'S, May, 392 pp., $6.99)
