THE SHADOW RUNNERS

Jenny Red has gone from living
in the servants' area of a palace to
surviving on the tough streets of Macao. After her father is accused of treason, she is sent to Newgate, Australia, which in the year 2176 is run by a drug-add-icted, regency-admiring gang called
the Parliament. Jenny escaped from
Newgate once, so she has no intention
of going back.

D'ekkar Han Valoreen, the half-
brother of Prince Kyber, is now a
member of the Shadow Runners, an organization fomenting change and
revolution. Deck's assignment is to
enter Newgate and get a communication tower up and running. To accomplish this, he will need his old friend Jenny
to help. She has huge doubts, but the opportunity is one she can't pass up.

The 2176 saga continues, and the forces of change are slowly converging. Maverick provides an excellent chapter in this ongoing adventure series. Deck and Jenny are gritty and realistic, not to mention completely compelling. (Jun., 368 pp., $6.99)
