Genre: Fantasy, General Fantasy

RT Rating

This genre-blending story continues telepath Adam’s investigations into some of the most deadly crimes, alongside detective and friend Isabella Cherabino. Although he comes across as a bit of a sad sack at times, Adam is a multilayered character dealing with the deterioration of his telepathic abilities, his former drug addiction and a complicated relationship with Isabella. Hughes does a wonderful job making Adam’s telepathic abilities seem plausible, and her creation of a world where humans and technology can meld together gives this story an enjoyable cyberpunk edge.

What good is a Level Eight telepath without his abilities? After almost losing his powers and opening up a dangerous link between himself and his partner Isabella, Adam is told that If he doesn’t shape up, he could lose his job. Already seen as a joke by his cop cohorts, Adam is determined to get to the bottom of a case involving illegal Tech parts, which caused the world’s Tech Wars many years ago. But will it be enough to save his job and bring back his telepathic powers full force? (ROC, Apr., 352 pp., $7.99)
