SHARPER THAN A SERPENT'S TOOTH

Author(s):
In this most recent novel of the Nightside, John Taylor faces his most deadly foe yet: his mother, the long-banished Lilith. She seems to think that because she created the Nightside that she should be its ruler, and she's willing to pull the city apart and slaughter its inhabitants to make sure that happens.

Unfortunately for Taylor, there's a prophecy in play that says that it doesn't matter what he does, the entire Nightside is doomed -- and so is the rest of the world. So he needs to prevent the prophecy from coming true while still saving the Nightside.

Accompanied by colorful and quirky characters, Taylor does what he needs to do in order to save the world. While this volume may be slight on pages, it's packed with action and dark humor. Taylor is an eminently sympathetic hero, and watching him work out his inner conflicts while fighting the bad guys is entertaining. (Mar., 256 pp., $6.99)
