This is the third in a series of books that should be read in order. Readers who haven't read the other two books will find it a difficult and confusing read.

A new king is crowned and a birth draws closer. After giving birth and a disappointing series of events, including Kerric being married off to another woman, Valeria leaves Aurelia as an ambassador to the new king. Tricked into returning home, she becomes a pawn used to further destroy the empire, which had begun the process of the Unmaking. Kerrec and the other riders save the day with help from their gods disguised as horses. (LUNA, Oct., 448 pp., $14.95)
