SHE’S GONE COUNTRY
Porter’s work only gets stronger with each book. She’s Gone Country is another heartfelt novel from the author, with a struggling, albeit resourceful, single mom as the protagonist. The issues Shey Darcy contends with are timely and complicated but she handles herself with finesse.
Life is tough after Shey Darcy’s husband comes out of the closet. The 39-year-old former model moves herself and her three sons from Manhattan to her family’s ranch out in the country.
Her boys are having trouble adjusting to their new lives. One gets into fights and another pleads with Shey to let him move back to New York to be with his father. She’ll need all the support she can get when her ex-boyfriend, Dane Kelly, comes back into the picture and is as handsome, complicated and sexy as ever. (FIVE SPOT, Aug., 384 pp., $13.99)
