THE SHEIK AND THE BOUGHT BRIDE
THE SHEIK AND THE BOUGHT BRIDE (3) by Susan Mallery: While working as an assistant to Prince Nadim of El Deharia, Victoria fantasizes about becoming his wife. When the dream is dashed by his engagement to someone else, Victoria's father turns up -- and promptly "loses" her in a poker game with Nadim's brother, Kateb. Honoring the wager is Victoria's choice, although it means going into the desert -- and becoming Kateb's mistress. Not an unattractive possibility once they get acquainted, but Kateb's still mourning his dead wife. Revamping a tried-and-true premise works to a point, and wisecracking heroine Victoria has her moments, but Kateb's hard to warm up to, and there's not much romance either.
