THE SHEPHERD’S BRIDE (3) by Patricia Davids: Lizzie Barkman leaves home to find her grandfather and prevent her sister’s arranged marriage to an abusive man. At her grandfather’s farm, Lizzie encounters Carl King, who was shunned by his community. Carl seems to be caring and strong in his faith, and Lizzie hopes to lead him back to the Amish life, especially as her feelings for him grow. How will she handle the secret shame he is harboring? This Brides of Amish Country entry is well researched and presents interesting tidbits about raising sheep. The 23rd Psalm is nicely woven in, as Jesus is the ultimate shepherd. The book has an intriguing start, but the reader may be left wishing more was written about Lizzie’s sisters.
