Fans of futuristic romance will be pleased with the debut of another talented new voice who carries us off to romance among the stars.

She is the only one who can do what needs to be done. Already a pariah in the Shielder community because of her seizures, Nessa is the logical person to
volunteer to carry the deadly Orana virus
to a hidden research laboratory in hopes
of finding a vaccine.

It would be dangerous, however,
if she were caught by the Controllers,
or one of their bounty hunters known
as Shadowers; not only would she forfeit her life, but her failure to complete
her mission would result in the deaths
of all her people.

But when her spaceship malfunctions, she must take the risk of accepting help from Chase McKnight, an enigmatic human who for reasons of his own has taken up the profession of Shadower. But will he keep his promise to provide transport to the nearest starbase?

In spite of shaky medical detail, an overly brusque hero and a heroine with a poor self-image, this fast-paced adventure features a variety of colorful, supporting players to intrigue futuristic fans. (Apr.,
368 pp., $5.50)
