Bruhns begins a little questionably
with a heroine who goes to a
speed-dating session just to get
laid and walks out with the scariest
guy there. However, it's easy to become wrapped up in the lives
of Bruhns' compelling characters,
who grow and learn from their
experiences. While a few loose
ends remain unexplained, this is
a fun, enjoyable read.

Nurse Rainie Martin's traumatic past has caused her to live a sheltered and fearful life. When her friend talks her into a speed-dating event so she can hook up "safely," Rainie ends up handcuffed to dark and dangerous, albeit sexy, stranger Kick Jackson. The government needs Kick's help and won't take no for an answer. Now he's inadvertently dragged Rainie into a plot to assassinate a terrorist -- putting the one woman who's ever touched his heart in peril. (BERKLEY SENSATION, Aug., 352 pp., $7.99)
