Author Catherine Bybee writes a complicated story, one involving ancient curses, time travel, historical culture clash get rid of this comma and plenty of sexual tension. But the author keeps the action and emotions straightforward by investing in several choice characters with complementary plot lines. The danger the time traveling druidess Myra MacCoinnich is in is well-balanced with her experience in contemporary times and her romance with Officer Todd Blakely. Bybee makes an interesting choice when she preserves Myra’s values about sex and marriage (and keeps the heroine interested in returning to 1576) rather than immediately solving the story in a simple manner. However, Myra’s hesitations allow Bybee to showcase the dynamic secondary character, Lizzy McCallister, who aids Myra in navigating through the present day and modern romance. The story improves even further when Myra, Todd, Lizzy and Lizzy’s son straddle centuries. Although there are a few lags when the narrative switches to highlight Witch Grainna and her minions, Silent Vows is buoyed up with mysticism and Myra and Todd’s scorching encounters. For being the stuff of folklore, the storyline is surprisingly convincing and the ending is a perfect set up for the trilogy's last installment. You won't want to miss it!
When Officer Todd Blakely gets a call that an amnesic woman has turned up at a local amusement park, he's skeptical. After meeting the beautiful Myra MacCoinnich, it is clear that although she doesn't suffer from memory loss, she is scared to reveal anything about herself. Myra has good reason to be afraid, she is a medieval druidess who has been sent five centuries into the future to escape death at the hands of an evil witch’s curse. When Myra meets Officer Todd, she wants to trust him with her secrets. But can he believe the truth about who she is? And although Myra quickly learns to love the twenty-first century, and Todd, the mystical curse she fled has followed her into the present day. Will Myra and Todd survive the test of time?
