Elliott (aka Andrea Pickens) pens an enjoyable though predictable romance peopled with charming characters that demonstrate her strong storytelling gift.

Scholar Lady Ciara Sheffield is always in control. But when her deceased husband's family tries to steal her son's inheritance and accuses her of murder, she makes a devil's bargain with disreputable Lucas, the Earl of Hadley. Lucas asks Ciara to translate an ancient text and agrees to pose as her betrothed in exchange for her help. The more time they spend together, the more their attraction grows. Lucas shows Ciara that life can be fun and passion should never be denied. But danger thrusts them into one perilous situation after another. (FOREVER, Mar., 380 pp., $6.99)
