The first installment in Welfonder’s Highland Warriors trilogy continues a long tradition of well-written, highly emotional romances. This marvelous novel is rich in love and legend, populated by characters steeped in honor, to make for a sensual and emotional read.

The Scots king has sent a royal decree to the lairds of the MacDonald, Cameron and Mackintosh clans who inhabit the Glen of Many Legends, demanding that their feuding clans battle to the death. The clan of the last man standing will be awarded the Glen; the others will be resettled.

Catriona MacDonald, Laird Alasdair’s sister, has long suppressed her feelings for Cameron’s laird, James. He also shares an unrequited love for her. While they attempt to keep their desires hidden, James convinces Alasdair and Kendrew Mackintosh to follow a plan that will prevent the needless death of their clansmen. He hopes to ensure that the king will not take the glen from them. Unbeknownst to the lairds, their three sisters have devised a plan of their own. As the day of the terrible battle nears, the tension and emotions of all involved continue to ratchet upward until the startling climax. (FOREVER, Jan., 384 pp., $7.99)
