This series finale continues Gray’s winning streak. While her last book was an enthralling spin-off of the main storyline, this one picks up the main thread and weaves the characters into an engrossing story. It is necessary to have read the first two books, but once you have you will be locked in to this one. It will keep you up late and make you late to work.
Gillie meets Taye after spending 12 years as a prisoner in the Foundation’s experimental lab. Taye breaks them out. However, the Foundation thinks they are valuable property — Gillie can heal and Taye can channel electricity, making him a great weapon — and wants them back. A stranger named Mockingbird tips them off when the retrieval team gets close. Mocking-bird wants them to work for him, but Taye and Gillie don’t want to trade one prison for another. Trying to evade capture while fighting their attraction to each other makes freedom a challenge. (BERKLEY SENSATION, Jul., 304 pp., $7.99)
