Britton creates another fast-moving, heartrending romance where love triumphs, even in adverse conditions. With fleshed-out characters, even the good guys -- and the ones that aren't so good -- are easy to cheer for. Appropriately, the bad guy gets his due.

When Dana Johnson discovers that her abusive fiance has been taking credit for her work behind her back, she breaks her engagement right before their wedding. She has never seen a NASCAR race, but when her friend, Alysa, invites her to one, she sees it as an escape from the after-effects of her decision.

Dana is shocked when she wins the contest Alysa talked her into entering -- and the prize is a date with NASCAR driver Braden James. Determined to not go through with it, she finds Braden and his sponsor,, who convince her otherwise. Now Dana is falling for the hotshot driver, who is also a vulnerable former foster kid, while Alysa fumes on the sidelines. (HQN, Sep., 384 pp., $7.99)
