THE SOLDIER'S WIFE
THE SOLDIER’S WIFE (4) by Cheryl Reavis: After the war ends, Union soldier Jeremiah “Jack” Murphy sets out to keep a battlefield promise made to a dying enemy, Thomas Garth. Thomas’ widow Sayer Garth has been taking care of his two young sisters since he married her, then immediately marched off to war four years ago. They are now threatened by Thomas’ uncle, who wants the land her husband owned. Jeremiah finds himself hiding out from bounty hunters while fighting to protect Sayer and the girls. Reavis pens a very good story that touches briefly on the horror and grief of the Civil War and shows the joy in keeping even the toughest of promises.
