In the sequel to Sacred Trust, the tentative romance of Dr. Lukas Bower and Mercy Richmond is complicated when her ex-husband gives up drinking and returns to the Lord. Mercy is torn between her desire to forgive and her need for restitution for the pain Theodore has caused. And Lukas must give Mercy, Theodore and their daughter Theo the time they need to work things out.

Solemn Oath has all the bureaucratic complications of ER, including a federal investigation and an impending health care merger that seems to spell disaster. Although the storyline is stereotypical of television hospital dramas, the characters are interesting enough to capture the readers heart. Solemn Oath is a fast-paced read that medical romance fans should enjoy. (May, 352 pp., $10.99)
