SOME LIKE IT KILTED
This is a delightfully intriguing and lighthearted ghost story with ghosts that have all the benefits of the living -- and then some. It's fun to have some characters from previous stories make cameo appearances. The ending might be a bit of a let-down for some.
Mindy Menlove lives in a mausoleum, also known as MacNeil's Folly. Actually a medieval Scottish castle, the building was brought to America stone by stone and surprisingly left to Mindy when her unfaithful fiance, and current castle owner, dies suddenly. Blackmailed by the castle ghosts into returning their home to Scotland, and yet warned by the ghost of MacNeil Chieftain, Bran of Barra, to stay away, Mindy finds herself traveling to Barra, Scotland. Definitely not a Scotophile like her sister, Mindy is shocked to be enchanted by the Hebrides and falling for Bran, something he knows is destined to happen. Yet he also knows they have no future together, because their division by time is something even he can't overcome. (SIGNET ECLIPSE Feb., 352 pp., $6.99)
