SORTA LIKE A ROCKSTAR
Quick's novel starts slow and is full of too oft-repeated phrases and heavy religious themes. Though this looks at a rarely mentioned facet of high school, it is presented in an annoying way, precluding any sort of connection with the reader.
Amber is an optimist with a lot of faith. She and her mom live on the school bus her mother drives. Amber is determined that her mother will move them up in the world, despite her poor track record. Meanwhile Amber and her friends work to save their beloved marketing teacher's job. She prays frequently for the people around her, and does her best to do some good. When disaster strikes, will she be able to maintain her cheerful outlook? (LITTLE BROWN, May, 355 pp., $16.99, ISBN: 9780316043526, HC, 12 and Up)
