Police chief Matthew Cade can't believe he hit a pedestrian with his police car! The man stepped out in front of him in the midst of the SOUTHERN STORM (4.5) battering the island of Cape Refuge, GA. The pedestrian dies, but not just from the impact. He also has a bullet wound. Cade becomes determined to find the shooter. Soon, Cade disappears after being seen talking to a mystery woman. The police chief isn't the only one vanishing. Babies are being taken from hospitals in the area. Blair Owens doesn't believe the chief ran off with a woman. Someone has kidnapped the man she secretly loves, and in her gung-ho style, she intends to find him. Along with the return of some fascinating characters, Terri Blackstock expertly tightens the screws on the plot in this new installment of the Cape Refuge series. (May, 384 pp., $12.99)
