Two women learn to stand up for themselves as they have for others in the heartwarming Sparkle (3), by Jennifer Greene. When a woman regarded as unrighteous dies, she leaves two women a legacy that changes their lives. Poppy Thompson works with animals but is awkward with people, and she sees herself as a plain woman that men settle for. Bren Price is the beautiful wife of a minister living what appears to be a wonderful life, but she has a terrible secret. With their money, both can achieve their dream, if only they can discover what they really want. The sharp contrast between Bren and Poppy is used to good effect. Religion is used in a fresh way and shown to be a complicated force. Readers will hope they find the strength to go for their heart's desire.
