Book Review

SPARKS
by Laura Bickle

Genre: Paranormal/Urban Fantasy, Urban Fantasy

RT Rating

The second book in Bickle’s series about Anya Kalinczyk is just as wonderful as the first — Anya is a compelling and likable protagonist and Bickle does an outstanding job in her portrayal of the city of Detroit; there are ruins, yes, but also hope in the ashes. Anya never takes herself too seriously and there is a scene in a baby supercenter that is absolutely not to be missed.

Anya Kalinczyk is an arson investigator in the troubled city of Detroit. She’s also a Lantern, someone who can send ghosts into oblivion with little more than a thought. Six months after the failed awakening of Sirrush, she thinks her life is getting back to what passes for normal when it gets weird — this time with a case of possible spontaneous human combustion. Her investigation leads her to a charity which claims to provide miracles to those who donate, but there is a darkness behind them, one that threatens everything Anya holds dear.
