Book Review

SPEAK OF THE DEVIL
by Allison Leotta

Genre: Mystery/Suspense/Thriller, Suspense

RT Rating

Leotta draws upon her own experience as a sex-crimes prosecutor to give a vivid look at violent gangs and those dedicated to stopping them. The descriptions of the vicious gangs and their young recruits are in sharp contrast to the parties and wedding-planning details of law enforcement professionals on the other side.

Prosecutor Anna Curtis gets engaged and creates a family with the man she loves and his 6-year-old daughter. Then a routine brothel sweep by law enforcement escalates into a major gang investigation and Anna is targeted by a brutal gang. Moved to a safe place, Anna continues investigating and soon comes to question the loyalty of the undercover officer on the case. When Anna tries to access a woman in witness protection, the result is so explosive that she begins to doubt those she works with and her own future. (TOUCHSTONE, Aug., 288 pp., $25.00)
