Reading a new Benni Harper story is like greeting old friends. Fowler’s writing is as always so descriptive that it feels as though you are in the pages along with the characters. The mystery itself moves along rapidly and comes to an interesting conclusion. Benni has a very emotional ride in this book and her feelings and actions always ring true. This is a wonderful story, one that continues to advance all of the characters in this terrific series.
Benni Harper is up to her eyeballs with preparations for the upcoming Memory Festival that she is organizing and all seems to be going smoothly until a sniper attack threatens everything that Benni holds dear. Benni’s husband, Gabe Ortiz, is the police chief in town and Benni is afraid that the sniper will target Gabe. Along with that, Gabe begins to suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder and it feels like Benni’s world is being attacked from all fronts. Benni knows she must do what she can to keep her family and world safe. (PRIME CRIME, May, 320 pp., $25.95)
