Neither main character in this short story is well developed. Angelica is unbelievable, both a tomboy and a femme fatale. In one scene she is a great bowling buddy and in the next she is pleasuring herself in public just because she can. While she suffers from an overabundance of personality, David has almost none. He lets his current girlfriend and mother push him around which makes him seem wimpy. The novella does include several hot sex scenes in some very unexpected places, but readers wanting realistic, engaging characters should look elsewhere.

David has been Angelica’s best friend for ten years, they were even roommates in college. However, recently their relationship has been strained. Ever since David’s new girlfriend, Belinda, has come into the picture, he has had very little time to hang out with his buddies, including Angelica. For her part, Angelica has had enough of watching David waste time with vapid, jealous females. After examining her feelings, she realizes that she is the one who wants to be by David’s side, and not just as a best friend. (ELLORA'S CAVE, October 2011, dl., $2.49)
