While it eventually picks up, the plot of Thompson’s first Back Stage Pass series book is a bit hard to engage in. Also, Lenora’s secondary storyline somewhat overpowers that of Kat and Scott, who appear to be the main characters. The chapter titles are fitting, as they are named after television shows.

Kat Jennings and Scott Murphy portray “Angie” and “Jack,“ two talent scouts in love on the television show Stars Collide — and have a secret offscreen romance as well. When the show’s storyline includes a proposal, Kat’s grandmother — Lenora Worth, a Hollywood star from the 1950s — believes it is reality. Lenora inadvertently starts rumors about Kat’s upcoming “nuptials,“ and Kat and Scott’s real-life relationship threatens to be exposed. How do they explain things to Lenora … and what is her connection to Rex, the producer of Stars Collide? (REVELL, Jan., 336 pp., $14.99)
