THE STEEL REMAINS
by Richard K. Morgan

Genre: Fantasy, General Fantasy

2009 Epic Fantasy Novel Award Winner

RT Rating

Morgan's first fantasy novel is absolutely stunning. A gritty, well-constructed tale, this dark, haunting story is about a man who has seen and done terrible things. Not a typical epic fantasy, it will provide a challenge to many readers, but it's absolutely worth reading.

Ringil, an aging veteran of a terrible war, is living a quiet life when he's asked to find a cousin sold into slavery. Gil winds up being pulled back into a world he thought he'd left behind and discovers that things have changed -- and not for the better.

Gil quickly finds out that there's more at stake than just his cousin's life. There are hints that the long-lost Aldrain, a race of demons, have returned to the world and intend to reclaim it as their own. (Del Rey, Jan., 432 pp., $26.00)
