Life is very tense for caterer Goldy Schulz. Her police officer husband, Tom, is away pursuing a man who stole a fortune in stamps; her abusive ex-husband has been paroled from jail; and she's exposed one of the town's leading citizens as a child abuser. When someone shoots out her living room window, Goldy goes to Hyde Castle, where she's catering a banquet.

Upon Tom's return, he's ambushed and shot through the shoulder, so it seems both shootings are related to his case. But when Goldy discovers a connection between the child abuser and Hyde Castle, and another between her ex and the case Tom's working on, she knows this is no coincidence. Goldy takes matters into her own hands and faces the battle of a lifetime.

A complex storyline and a good deal of action make STICKS AND SCONES a super read and a standout entry in this popular series. (Jun., 400 pp., $6.99) Hardcover published April 2001.
