The characters in this story are so realistic, from their extended dialogue to their thoughts and actions. When tragedy strikes, these families realize they're bound and must pull together.

Jerome Henderson and Antoinette Reeves Wellington were high school sweethearts; Toni went to college and Jerome to the military. When Toni went to visit Jerome, she found that he was sleeping with another woman and ended their relationship.

Twenty years later, they reunite and find that both have had failed marriages. Toni remains friends with her ex-husband, but Jerome is battling his wife for a divorce and custody of his four children.
