Leaving behind her life in New England, Kara Galway is moving back to Texas to be closer to her family. Life is starting to look good again until it seems as if she's bound to be pulled back into her former life.

First, her mentor Mike Parisi, a Connecticut governor, is killed under mysterious circumstances and her best friend Alllyson is sworn in as his replacement. Allyson's children are in Texas at camp when they run away and show up at Kara's door with fear-driven stories.

To top it all off, she recently had a brief weekend fling with handsome Texas Ranger Sam Temple, who now seems determined to be involved as she tries to sort out this strange series of events.

Carla Neggers once again delivers excitement and adventure wrapped in witty dialogue and fun romance. She nicely brings back characters from some of her former books into a story that stands completely alone. The result is sheer enjoyment.
