SUDDENLY YOU (4) by Sarah Mayberry: Mechanic Harry Porter stops to help his best friend’s ex-girlfriend Pippa White after he sees her broken down on the side of the road, and he learns that his friend Steve isn’t doing right by the single mother of his child. In fact, he’s gone out of his way to hide money so that Pippa only gets the bare minimum in child support. Determined to help her, Harry fixes Pippa’s car and performs some repairs around her house. Eventually he falls for Pippa while he’s working, but Steve doesn’t approve of their newfound love. Mayberry’s characters are realistic, and she does a good job of depicting the tension between Harry and Steve, as well as Harry’s reluctance to get involved with his best friend’s ex.
