Book Review

by Mary Carter

Genre: Mainstream, General Mainstream Fiction

RT Rating

Carter's polished style and well- developed characters make this an excellent story. Andes' growth is strongly apparent in her relationship with Chase. (A reading group guide is included.)

Andes Lane wants to make a new start, and she begins by renting a houseboat in Seattle. When her landlord, Jay, needs someone to take care of his 10-year-old son Chase temporarily, Andes agrees to accompany the boy to Queens, N.Y., on a quest she's sure will prove fruitless. While Andes' hidden past follows her, she has to confront the secrets she tried to leave behind and the lies that have kept her running -- and she may find that this strange new city feels an awful lot like home.
