Swiftly paced and always exciting, the latest Lee Nez novel follows half-vampire Lee and FBI agent Diane Lopez as they search for a kidnapped child and follow Newton Glover, a man who seems to defy death. The connection between Lee and Diane is tangible, and their relationship holds the promise of romance.

Lee Nez, a New Mexico state police officer, is working undercover with Diane. They're to move into a home near Glover, a man suspected of running a pornography ring. Glover seems to have
a hold over his community, and he avoids criminal penalties and even turns up alive when neighbors swear that he's dead.

When an Amber Alert goes out for a missing 10-year-old boy, Lee and Diane believe that Glover may have something to do with the boy's kidnapping. As Lee and Diane work with local law enforcement to find the missing boy, they discover a connection between a known criminal and Glover. (Forge, Dec., 320 pp., $24.95)
