Ms. Heggan tells a multi-layered story with rich characters and enough twists for total enjoyment. Leave yourself plenty of time - you won't be able to put this down.

Defense attorney Kate Logan's difficult divorce left a chasm in her relationship with her teenage daughter. As she prepares to appeal a family friend's murder trial that she lost, her ex shows up asking to be bailed out of a mess that has resulted in blackmail. When the blackmailer, a call girl, dies, Kate's ex is the top suspect, and he's gone on the run. Her daughter asks her to help, and believing he's innocent, she agrees.

Police detective Mitch Calhoon, assigned to the case, assisted the prosecution in the trial Kate lost. But he suspects foul play in that case and wants justice served. Which means spending more time with Kate, to whom he's attracted. As they get closer to the truth, some Washington D.C. names get nervous, and the pair finds out that danger is everywhere.
