Full of adventure, this well-spun tale takes readers through a range of emotions. The main characters are infuriating one minute and captivating the next. This is a classic romance told from both points of view. The sex is just a shade graphic, but very well written. Couper’s descriptive style immerses readers in the setting of the Australian coastline and has them rooting for Ali and Jack once they realize they’re in love.

Ali Graham has suffered a great deal in her short life: Her father died four years ago in a tragic sailing accident while she was aboard, her mother developed multiple sclerosis, the only man she ever loved ran out on her and now she is overwhelmed by her dire financial straits. Jackson McKenzie, who disappeared on Ali right after taking her virginity on the day of her father’s funeral, is back to solve her money problems — hoping to win her back in the process. One fiasco after another and a complete lack of communication have them on a wild ride of love, lust, tragedy and humor. (SAMHAIN, Dec., 200 pp., $14.00)
