Kramer takes a break from her historical novels to start this small-town contemporary series set in the South. She delivers a straightforward romance with a spunky, repressed heroine who is rescued from her straightlaced ways by a familiar bad boy. Fun supporting characters make this trip to South Carolina a sweet ride.

True Maybank is about to marry the scion of another prominent family in Biscuit Creek, S.C. She’s known Dubose her whole life, and their marriage will make her parents happy and give financial stability to her old homestead. If only she hadn’t run into Harrison Gamble while picking up her wedding dress. Now a country music superstar, Harrison was her hidden guilty pleasure years ago. But Harrison is from the trailer- park side of town and her parents would have never approved. Harrison’s best friend and first love was True, and he’s never been able to forget her. But he is going to act like a gentleman about her imminent marriage, even if it kills him. When Harrison’s odd but lovable brother and True’s eccentric sister scheme to get True and Harrison together, things start getting interesting. (ST. MARTIN’S, Apr., 384 pp., $7.99)
